Short answer. If Planner 5D's subscription or its top-down style is not for you, the closest alternatives are Home Planner AI, formerly Room Planner (biggest branded catalogue on a phone), Live Home 3D (pay once), RoomSketcher (professional floor plans), Floorplanner (works in a browser, pay per project), Homestyler (free renders), IKEA Kreativ (free, IKEA only) and Flatwalk, the newcomer: one whole flat planned for free on an Android phone, with lights, the sun for your address and your street outside the windows.

1. Flatwalk: one flat, in detail, free

Built for the phone: photograph, draw or scan your plan, walk it at eye level and furnish it with real shop pieces at true size, then add lights, the sun for your address, your street in 3D and one piece tried live through the camera. One flat costs nothing; each AI tool gives one free try. Weaker than Planner 5D on: devices (Android only for now), catalogue size and track record.

2. Home Planner AI, formerly Room Planner: the big branded catalogue

A mature phone app with a very large library of real-brand furniture and polished pictures. Watch for: its own pricing page lists exact wall sizes, room scanning and floor plan recognition under its paid plans.

3. Live Home 3D: pay once

Strong on computers as well as phones, with a one-off price as an alternative to a subscription, sunlight by location and a walk-through. Watch for: the free version keeps one project at a time and marks every export.

4. RoomSketcher: floor plans that look professional

Good for estate agents and anyone who needs a tidy plan to print or share. It gives one free AI conversion of a plan. Watch for: the live 3D walk is on paid plans.

5. Floorplanner: fast, in a browser

Nothing to install, and you pay per project instead of per month. Watch for: free exports are small and marked.

6. Homestyler: free renders

Unlimited free pictures at basic size and a large model library. Watch for: coins, AI credits and monthly render quotas to keep track of.

7. IKEA Kreativ: free, if you are buying IKEA

Erase your room's furniture in a photo and try IKEA pieces in its place, at no charge. Watch for: IKEA products only.
